Scoring before folding can improve the quality of the finished product. In general, paper weights of 100# text and all cover weights should be scored before folding. The exceptions to this guideline are high bulking, lightweight covers such as 50# cover, 65# cover and 67# vellum bristol. These can often be folded with the grain without scoring.
