When it comes to mailing jobs, we always want to make sure the process is as smooth and painless as possible, as we’re sure you do too! One tiny aspect of this process is including “overs,” or an additional quantity of a specific product in your mailing specifications. Sometimes spoilage in mailing happens, and there is nothing worse than realizing too late that there isn’t enough pieces to cover your mailing list. To avoid this dilemma, simply specify a print quantity that covers the mailing process spoilage.
A good rule of thumb is to include at least 2% more than you’re your total mail list for any quantity over 2,500. (A fixed amount is usually required for mailings of less than 2,500). Of course, the complexity of the mailing process and your particular mail house will determine the exact number of “overs” required. If you are still unsure or tend to err on the side of caution like ourselves, you can always contact your mail house to get an exact overage for your project.
