Happy Halloween everybody! This week we are giving you more of a friendly reminder than a tip. The USPS has new postal regulations rolling out on January 28, 2013. Listed below are three major changes that may affect the design of your direct mail piece.
- Open bottom ended flaps will now have to go Non-Machinable and Non-Automated, which will increase the price by roughly $.13 each.
- Intelligent Mail Barcodes will be mandatory on all mail pieces. This includes return mail.
- Due to the IMB all windows of window envelopes will have to be increased in size to accommodate this barcode.
These changes aren’t too scary! Just beware the changes when designing your direct mail piece. Boo! (We didn’t scare you, did we?)
You can always visit www.usps.com for more information, or of course, you can always ask us!

Also coming in January are (1) new size limitations on folded self mailers – 10.5″ x 6″ and (2) rate increases for both first class and standard mail.
