The shiny object effect explored.
People the world over will always share the joy of experience thrills with their 5 different senses. Give them beautiful and intriguing to see, smell, touch, taste, and hear, and chances are you have a better chance of winning their attention. This method of getting prospect’s attention can be applied to direct mail.
While the message and an initial offering of a direct mail piece has the greater impact on response rates, there must be something really compelling to persuade the end receivers to open the mail piece. Enter the envelope. An envelope plays an important role in igniting interest and curiosity. Details such as dimension, color, lettering, and the tactile sensation of the paper can make all the difference. The end goal is for someone to read your message and take advantage of your offer, so having an envelope that stands out is huge.
One type of envelope that we really love is a clear poly envelope (It’s even biodegradable).

Receivers react to this envelope as they would with a shiny object. They see the shiny, clear packaging and immediately want to know what wonders this smooth object may hold!
Ok, maybe the viewers aren’t absolutely amazed, but chances are that your mailer has more creative packaging than your competition, giving you an increasing advantage. Plus, with a clear envelope, your mailer will have higher visibility, meaning the prospect doesn’t even have to open the envelope to see the message.
If you are worried about compliance with the USPS, these envelopes fit within postal standards. They also provide protection from scuffing and tearing as it goes through the postal system.
Sounds like a win-win situation. Once your mailer interacts with the senses of your prospects, your direct mail piece will be worthwhile.
