Digital printing is revolutionary in many ways: It allows you to print when you want and exactly how much you want. It allows you to vary text and images on each piece. And the quality now rivals offset printing.

But is digital printing green? Because digital printing uses a different technology than offset, what is its environmental impact?
The good news is that digital printing is an environmentally friendly process. Our personal favorite, the HP Indigo- is supported by Hewlett Packard who is ranked as one of the world’s most sustainable corporations by The Global 100. Here are some of the reasons why B&B’s HP Indigo is environmentally friendly:
- HP has implemented many and effective Environmental Management System (EMS) designed to reduce, reuse and recycle hardware and supplies.
- One of the biggest concerns when it comes to digital printing is the ability to recycle the paper with certain types of ink on it. HP Indigo kicks butt in this arena by using ElectroInks are low in VOCs, low in ozone, and recyclable.
- On the paper front, a whole host of FSC certified papers are HP Indigo certified. Yes, we do kinda love FSC certified papers.
- Finally, because you print when you want and only what you need, digital printing reduces waste. What’s more environmentally friendly than that?
Like many industries the Graphic Arts industry has focused on improving its environmental impact. The printing industry has always had the bad stigma of being unscrupulous when it comes to watching out for Mother Nature’s back, so it’s now time to wipe this image out.
