WHAT IS INTELLIGENT MAIL®?

The USPS now requires that every mailing with a postal discount must have its newest 65 bar barcode. This barcode is known as “Intelligent Mail” (and sometimes “Track My Mail”).
Therefore, when we prepare your mailings, we are now required to use this barcode. This allows the USPS to automate the routing of these mailings.
For a small fee the new barcode can track your mail throughout the delivery process. Now mailers and direct marketers can see their mailings pass through the postal system, track deliveries, and use this information to improve their results and service to their customers. When a mailing is enabled for tracking, information is delivered through a secure web portal and a series of easy to use online reports.

According to the White paper, Intelligent Mail ROI, there are many benefits to using Intelligent Mail:
• Coordinate other activities related to the mail piece, whether it is a related marketing offer via email, or a collection call reinforcing the message of a mailed collection notice
• Choose the most cost effective class of mail
• Plan and time mailings more effectively
• Anticipate and allocate resources for response more effectively
• Respond to customer inquiries regarding a mail piece
• Reschedule actions based on a mail delivery date – e.g. power disconnects, policy cancellation
• Provide a proof of mailing
With address intelligence, you can:
• Remove undeliverable addresses for future mailings
• Update addresses with new addresses supplied by ACS™
• Meet Move-Update compliance regulations
• Suspend services to an address when the customer has moved
