Let’s be friends!
When designers start production on a new project, there is no one better than a printer to be a great guide on staying within desired guidelines. Think of printers as the bumpers at a bowling alley; you could guide the project by yourself and risk getting the project sidelined, or you could have the guiding expertise of a printer to make sure you are heading straight for the pins. Here are the top three reasons why you should saddle up close to your printer:
1. Printers are more than producers. By working with various clients over the years, printers have seen numerous projects rejected because of design malfunctions. Printers use their experience to create ideas and make suggestions. By doing so, they are often able to save cost and time.
2. What’s more frustrating than not meeting production deadlines? Designers should understand production timelines to better work with the expectations of their clients. By asking printers for the typical life cycle of a job, designers can have a point of reference for various projects.
3. One word: paper. A designer’s work may be the most amazing piece of their life, but if they don’t know how to finalize their print project on appropriate paper, their project may fail. Many don’t realize the options from which they can choose from. Some papers don’t fold well, some work well with offset, but not with digital, and others may not work with the colors and intent of the project. Picking out the paper for a project will be much easier with a printer by the designer’s side.
To make the designer/printer relationship work, it’s best for to get involved early in the process. Never be afraid to ask questions and don’t be shy! We are here to help you and make your project succeed.
